Charles Heard had an extensive work-life before turning to the practice of the law. He is skilled in most construction trades, and started and operated a successful contracting firm. He worked in various aspects of oil and gas exploration and production. Mr. Heard also has owned a transportation business specializing in over-dimensional and super-heavy hauling.
Mr. Heard’s formal undergraduate education at Texas A&M (BS with honors) emphasized the hard sciences. He attended the University of Houston under a joint JD/MBA program, where he stressed practical trial advocacy and marketing courses.
Gaining both practical and academic insights into the detection and prevention of fraud, and the defense of those falsely accused of committing fraud, Heard became an Associate of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and will shortly seek his own fraud examiner certification.
Mr. Heard’s professional practice of trial law emphasizes a strong personal involvement in his client’s cases. His goal in litigation is to handle a smaller number of litigation cases than most attorneys attempt, insisting on aggressively working them according to his own very high standards to minimize the expense of litigation to his clients, their exposure to the ordeal, and to gain them the most favorable outcome.
That said, Mr. Heard considers a lawsuit to be something of a failure, and that by proactively helping his business clients to avoid or manage risks, including design of the very structure of their business organizations, he can offer them the greatest service at least cost—in money, time, energy, and emotion. |
